PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a thiol-modified monomer which is very excellent in various performances, particularly dispersion performance and gives a component useful in various uses, such as a cement admixture; a method for producing the monomer; a (poly)alkylene glycol chain-containing thiol polymer obtained using the monomer; a dispersant and a cement admixture containing these; and a cement composition. SOLUTION: The thiol-modified monomer has a structure represented by general formula (1) or (2), wherein at least one unit of the terminals of a (poly)alkylene glycol chain represented by (AO)n is a≥3C oxyalkylene group or an organic residue represented by R<SP>1</SP>and/or R<SP>2</SP>has a tertiary or higher carbon atom at a carbonyl group side terminal.
