<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asymmetric benzoxanthene dye of a useful kind as a fluorescent dye. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This asymmetric benzoxanthene dye compound has formula (A), wherein Y<SB>1</SB>and Y<SB>2</SB>are each independently hydroxyl, oxygen, iminium or amine; R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>8</SB>are each independently hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, lower alkyl, lower alkene, lower alkyne, sulfonate, amino, ammonium, amide, nitrile, alkoxy, linking groups or combinations thereof; and R<SB>9</SB>is acetylene, alkane, alkene, cyano, substituted phenyl or combinations thereof, where the substituted phenyl has a structure of formula (B), where X<SB>1</SB>is carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid; X<SB>2</SB>and X<SB>5</SB>are each independently hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine or lower alkyl; and X<SB>3</SB>and X<SB>4</SB>are each independently hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, lower alkyl, carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid or linking groups.
