PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lane recognition device capable of continuing a drive assist even if a lane cannot be recognized when an image in front of one's own vehicle is picked up. SOLUTION: A drive assist device 1 comprises a front side camera 2 for picking up an image in front of the own vehicle, a left side camera 3, a right side camera 4, and a rear side camera 5 for picking images of the left side, the right side, and the rear side of the own vehicle, respectively, and an ECU 10. The ECU 10 has a lane recognition unit 11 which processes the images picked up by the cameras 2-6, and recognizes a lane (a white lane) on a traveling road, and a white lane recognition and determination unit 13. The white lane recognition and determination unit 13 determines whether or not the white lane recognition reliability in the picked-up image by the front side camera 2 is equal to or lower than the preset permissible level. When the white lane recognition reliability is equal to or lower than the permissible level, any camera not in use out of the cameras 3-6 other than the front side camera 2 is started (ON), and an adequate drive assist mode according to the started camera is determined.
