<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system and a control method, for displaying, on a display device, an image of a wide range with a large field angle of imaging and little distortion, which is obtained using a plurality of free-curved surface prisms and one imaging element, as the image easy to view for a user in a wide dynamic range. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The camera system includes: one imaging element for converting an object image to an electric signal in a prescribed cycle; an optical system constituted of the plurality of free-curved surface prisms, for image-forming the object images in a plurality of different directions in a prescribed area on the imaging element by the respective free-curved surface prisms; a means for generating a first moving image on the basis of the electric signal from the imaging element; a means for dividing the first moving image into partial images corresponding to respective areas; a means for detecting the brightness of the object image for each partial image; a means for adjusting the exposure of the respective areas so as to be within a prescribed range corresponding to the brightness of the object image; a means for combining the partial images to a second moving image in a prescribed arrangement; and a means for displaying the second moving image on a display device.
