[Also in Division E2] In a press for moulding foamed synthetic resin materials a lid 3 is lockable to a mould body portion 1 by levers 11 mounted on or above the lid and arranged to engage tie bars 13 secured to the body portion so that the lid can be held secure during moulding operations. As shown each tie bar 13 is pivoted to a bracket 24 on the body portion 1 and at its upper end the bar 13 enters a slot formed in a plate 23 secured to a guide 20 for the corresponding lever 11, the levers and guides being interconnected by pins and slots 21. The lever 11 can be slid in the guide 20 so that its end 12 engages a slot 13a in the bar 13. The end 14 of the lever has an adjustable connection 17 to a beam 15 vertically slidable in guides 18 under the action of hydraulic rams 16. The bars 13 are secured to a side 25 of the portion which carries counterweights 26, to facilitate pivoted movement of the side 25. By extending the rams 16 the levers 11 are withdrawn from the slots 13a and the lid 1 can be pivoted to remove the plate 23 from the upper end of the bar 13; the side 25 can then be pivoted down to facilitate the unloading of the moulded material. The mould can be lined with aluminium sheets and may be hollow to act as stream chambers, and the sheets may be perforated to permit passage of the stream to heat the material. The mould may be employed to mould blocks of foamed synthetic resin material such as foamed polystyrene. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the mould body has a pivoted flap at one end and the other end is formed as a ram to eject moulded material. The levers are so connected with the beam that they can move horizontally during withdrawal from their connection with the tie bars. |
