The engine has a lubrication circuit equipped with an oil sump (2) that comprises an oil compartment for collecting oil, where the sump is fabricated by casting. A fluid circulation is formed in the sump for heating the oil by conduction. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) gas collecting compartment (11) is arranged external to the oil compartment. The gas collecting compartment is defined by a wall (12) surrounding a middle compartment (9) that is connected to an EGR circuit. The middle compartment is placed between the gas collecting compartment and the oil compartment. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating an oil sump.
