<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform stable operation by properly adjusting the intake temperature. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This engine 11, mainly, a premixed compressed self-ignition type engine is provided for burning an air-fuel mixture of fuel and air in a combustion chamber in a cylinder, and includes a heating system for heating intake air to the combustion chamber. The heating system is comprises: a first heat exchanger of using a first heat exchange medium; and a second heat exchanger of using a second heat exchange medium different from the first heat exchange medium. A flow regulating valve is respectively arranged for adjusting a supply flow rate of the respective heat exchange media to the respective heat exchangers. The intake temperature is adjusted by the heating system so that the intake temperature is set in a predetermined target value and/or a combustion parameter for indicating a combustion state in the combustion chamber is set to a predetermined target value.
