<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving circuit and a driving method of solid-state imaging element for more reliably preventing deterioration of imaging signals upon starting horizontal transfer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Horizontal transfer of signal charges is stopped by setting horizontal transfer pulses ϕH1, ϕH2 to the in-phase state until the predetermined time has passed after detection of rise of a horizontal synchronous signal HD. Thereafter, the horizontal transfer operation is started by setting the horizontal transfer pulses ϕH1, ϕH2 to the state of inverse-phase. Moreover, the horizontal transfer of signal charges can also be stopped by setting any one of the horizontal transfer pulses ϕH1, ϕH2 to a fixed voltage until the predetermined time has passed after detection of rise of the horizontal synchronous signal HD.
