<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce axial dimensions so as to cope with possible increase in axial dimensions of an automatic transmission which results from an axial extension of a sleeve member caused by the requirement of constant axial dimensions in splines respectively formed in a drum member and sleeve member when a drum member of at least one clutch is spline-fitted to a sleeve member. <P>SOLUTION: In a manufacturing method of a clutch for an automatic compression, inner peripheral portions of drum members 13, 23 of two clutches are respectively connected to a sleeve member 110, wherein a piston 14, a seal plate 112 and a return spring 17 are provided between both drum members 13, 23. An insulating member 112b to apply electric isolation between the piston 14 and drum member 13 or between the seal plate 112 and drum member 23 is mounted in either of the piston 14 or seal plate 112, in advance. The drum member 13 to which no isolation by the insulating member 112b is applied, is connected to the sleeve member 110. The piston 14, return spring 17 and seal plate 112 are assembled in the sleeve member 110 to which the drum member 13 has been connected.
