PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection system having a determination part which determines whether a liquid cartridge is normal or not. SOLUTION: An ink cartridge 10 provided with a pivoting member 90 which can pivot in an ink storage chamber 11 in accordance with a position of a liquid surface in the ink storage chamber 11 is mounted on a mounting part 300. An optical sensor 330 comprises: a light emission part of emitting light in a direction that crosses a moving locus of a light shielding part 91 of the pivoting member 90; and a light receiving part which can assume two states according to a position of the light shielding part 91 on the moving locus thereof. A solenoid 340 and an iron core 341 generate a magnetic field, and a ferromagnetic body 92A of the pivoting member 90 receives a force from a magnetic field. A control part 400 determines that a liquid cartridge is normal in S5 when determining that the state of the light receiving part is changed in S4, and determines that the liquid cartridge is abnormal in S6 when determining that the state of the light receiving part is not changed in S4.
