摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase thermal efficiency by uniformizing a fuel distribution in a cylinder. Ž<P>SOLUTION: As shown in Fig.1, this control device includes a fuel injection valve 10 for injecting a fuel directly into the cylinder and an ignition plug 9 for igniting the fuel injected into the cylinder. The control device calculates a boundary rotational speed which is the engine rotational speed in the boundary between a first area where knocking is liable to occur and a second area where knocking is hard to occur on the basis of an intake air amount determined according to the operating conditions. A fuel injection period is so determined that the fuel distribution in the cylinder is uniformized in the first area by changing the rate of the change of the injection pressure of the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve 10 to the engine rotational speed on both sides of the boundary rotational speed. Since a flame propagation velocity from the ignition plug 9 can be uniformized, a combustion period can be shortened, the thermal efficiency can be increased by reducing unburned fuel, and the occurrence of knocking can be suppressed.
