A fibre-forming linear polyamide may be derived from equimolecular proportions of adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine and 0.3-3% of a polyoxyalkylene diamine of formula <FORM:1062547/C3/1> where R is an alkylene radical having a chain of 2-8 carbon atoms and x is such that the molecular weight of the polyoxyalkylenediamine is at least 1000. The adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine may be present as their salt. R may be ethylene, propylene, butylene and pentylene. The polymerization may be carried out at 180-300 DEG C., at atmospheric, sub- or super-atmospheric pressure, and in the absence of O2, e.g. under an N2 atmosphere. The polyoxyalkylene diamine may be added during polymerization of the other monomers. Other materials which may be added are delustrants, antioxidants, plasticizers, viscosity stabilizers and chain terminators. |
