1,068,652. Inductors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 18, 1966 [March 18, 1965], No. 7179/66. Heading H1T. Acoustic vibrations set up in the eddy current shield of inductive apparatus (e.g. coreless reactors) housed in a tank are reduced by incorporating the shield as the centre section of a three-part housing. Fig. 1 shows a cylindrical tank 13 comprising end members 21, 22 of magnetic material (e.g. steel plate) joined to an intermediate member 20 of non-magnetic, conducting material (e.g. aluminium or copper) by flanges 23, 24 which also act as bracers for member 20. Additional circumferential bracing may be provided by bands 25 of channel section aluminium rolled to an accurate circular configuration. A coreless reactor 10 is secured by spiders 11, 12 to the tank 13 and is completely immersed in insulating fluid (e.g. oil or askarel) arranged to be circulated through a cooling radiator 15. Additional sound insulation may be provided by evacuating, or filling with glass wool or the like, the space between member 20 and an aluminium collar (30) (Fig. 3, not shown) encircling the member 20 and bands 25. |
