The method involves automatically supplying a sample of aqueous liquid e.g. drinking water, filled with micro organisms e.g. mesophile germs, to a calorimeter e.g. chip calorimeter and/or nano-calorimeter. Temperature change or heat change of the sample of the aqueous liquid is continuously measured for different time periods in the calorimeter, where volume of the sample in the calorimeter is in the range of 0.5 nl to 100 ml. A particular point of time at which thermal output of the sample of the aqueous liquid changes is determined.
