The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel having a first and a second side, a first polarizer arranged on the first side of the liquid crystal panel, and a backlight unit arranged on the first side of the liquid crystal panel, the first polarizer being arranged between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight unit, a second polarizer arranged on the second side of the liquid crystal panel, and a first half-wave plate arranged on the second side of the liquid crystal panel, the second polarizer arranged between the liquid crystal panel and the first half-wave plate. A slow axis of the first half-wave plate meets a transmission axis of the second polarizer at a first angle &thetas;1 so that the first half-wave plate rotates the polarization axis of polarized light transmitted from the second polarizer.
