Information is provided so as to objectively and easily compare left and right intercosta regions. A medical image processing apparatus includes an area calculating means for extracting the left and right lung field regions and the costa region from a medical image (steps S1, S2), determining intercosta regions surrounded by the costa region (step S3) for each of the lung field regions, and calculating the area of each intercosta region (step S4), a display means, and a control means for displaying the result of the calculation of the areas of the intercosta region on the display means (step S5). |
