The device has an open infiltration collector (20) at a lower side and fitted on a subsurface (10). A hollow space (22) of the collector is completely filled with an infiltration liquid (43). An infiltration container is hydraulically connected with the hollow space for feeding the hollow space with the infiltration liquid. A surface clamped by a cover opening and a cross-section area of an inner cavity of the container are in a ratio of 2500 to 4000, where the fluid level of the infiltration liquid drops during a section of infiltration time in the container. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring infiltration rate of a subsurface.
