A panel handling system takes panels off a stack and passes them to process stations, e.g. sawing processes. The system has two sets of orthogonal grips (24, 32) with the second set lowered from an overhead parking position into the operating position. The parking position is sufficiently high to be above the maximum height of the stacks.
