COMPOSITION AND METHODS OF PREPARATION OF TARGET MATERIAL FOR PRODUCING RADIONUCLIDES

A composition suitable for use as a target containing antimony to be irradiated by accelerated charged particles (e.g., by protons to produce tin-117m) comprises an intermetallic compound of antimony and titanium which is synthesized at high-temperature, for example, in an arc furnace. The formed material is powdered and melted in an induction furnace, or heated at high gas pressure in gas static camera. The obtained product has a density, temperature stability and heat conductivity sufficient to provide appropriate target material.
