<p>The present invention relates to a heating apparatus (10) and a method of heating water. The heating apparatus (10) includes a pressure vessel (12) defining a storage cavity (12.1) in which fluid to be heated can be accommodated, at least two pre-heater arrangements within the pressure vessel (12) and at least two microwave emitters (16.1, 16.2). At least a portion of the pressure vessel (12) is of a microwave transmissible material. Each pre-heater arrangement includes a perforated or foraminous enclosure (18.1, 18.2) defining therein a pre-heater cavity capable of accommodating a portion of the fluid within the pressure vessel (12) and allowing passage of the fluid through the enclosure (18.1, 18.2). Each emitter (16.1, 16.2) is operable to irradiate one of the pre-heater cavities with microwaves. Each enclosure (18.1, 18.2) of the pre-heater arrangement may include perforations or foramina (19.1, 19.2) through which the fluid can flow, the specific configuration of the perforations or foramina (19.1, 19.2) influencing the flow of fluid through the enclosure (18.1, 18.2).</p> |
