The wear-resistant component comprises a wear protection layer made of iron based alloy present on a surface of a piston ring of internal combustion engine subject to wear. The component is produced by thermal spraying method, where the coating comprises a crystalline area of iron boride with an average particle size of 1-10 nm and a crystalline area of tungsten carbide with chromium carbide with an average particle size of 1-5 mu m. The wear protection layer has a thickness of 30-600 mu m. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of wear-resistant component.
