The device has a mechanical connection between a gear-shift lever operated by a driver and a selector shaft of a shiftable gearbox. A shifting force of the driver is transferred to a shifting mechanism of the gearbox by the mechanical connection. A sensor e.g. force sensor, detects a shifting request of the driver. An electromechanical shift actuator (9) operates on the mechanical connection and/or the selector shaft, such that a shifting force of the mechanical connection and/or the selector shaft of the gearbox is produced subsidiary to a shifting force of the driver. An independent claim is also included for a method for shifting a gearbox using an electromechanical shifting device.
