The device (1) has a drive device (12) for driving a screw jack (4), and a tool head (6) for contacting a screw element (10). The screwing tool has a control device (8), which controls the drive device based on the screw element. The screw element has a transmitting device (22) for sending signals (S1), which are characterized for physical properties of the screw element. A receiving device (16) is provided for receiving the transmitted signals. The screw element is equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. An independent claim is also included for a method for handling a screw element.
