The present invention relates to a mattress having a core made of polyurethane or a similar material and produced by injection-moulding, and to a process for releasing said core from the mould. The invention is characterised in that the core (1) is a single piece formed by an array of elastic elements (2) bounded, not necessarily on all sides, by surrounding walls (15) which are perforated at least in the zones other than the head and foot zones. The elastic elements (2) are provided with bores (6) and are joined together by the bodies (4) thereof, while the tops (6) thereof are mutually independent. Said perforations and bores (6) allow air to circulate when the mattress is in use.
