[Also in Division F2] The four hardened steel wire races of a ball bearing (see Division F2) are produced from square or rectangular section split rings by cold working the corners into indented tracks of arcuate form. The rings are mounted in concentric annular recesses in upper and lower platens 60, 53 and circumferentially spaced balls 54 are run in contact with the corners of the rings by rotating the upper platen while subjecting it to an axial load by means of a hydraulic cylinder 70. A thrust bearing 63 determined the maximum distance the upper platen 60 can be moved. |
