This invention relates to methods and pharmaceutical compositions useful in treating pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary hypertension is a disorder characterized by high blood pressure in the arteries that supplies the lungs. Pulmonary hypertension is often classified as either secondary pulmonary hypertension in which the cause of the elevated blood pressure is known, or primary pulmonary hypertension in which the cause is unknown. Particularly useful compositions for the treatment of secondary pulmonary hypertension comprise a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor such as topiramate and an additional active agent such as a type V phosphodiesterase inhibitor.
