METHOD AND APPARATUS OF LOCAL CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus of a local contrast enhancement by adjusting color components using an RGB scaling process are provided to conserve a clear contrast detail inside a high brightness area with a small amount of hardware cost. CONSTITUTION: A method of a local contrast enhancement comprises the following steps: determining the degree of a local contrast increment to recompense a degradation due to a tone mapping(1201); obtaining a weighted sum average of plural pixels and a profile signal by summing up the weighted sum average of an absolute change of the pixels(1202); applying a local shading to a intensity level of an image signal(1203); and maintaining a color property of the pixel by adjusting color components using an RGB scaling process(1204).
