A lamp or other roadside standard designed to yield on lateral impact by a colliding vehicle comprises an upper tapered section 12 connected to a ground-embedded section 11 by a shear bolt or bolts 15 passing through abutting end plates 13, 14 welded to the sections 11, 12. Silicone grease or other lubricant is provided between the plates 13, 14. As shown a single waisted bolt 15 passes through a large clearance hole 21 in the plate 14 and is threaded into the plate 13. A split pin 17 prevents relative rotation. The standard may be of sheet steel, of resin-bonded glass fibre, or of aluminium or steel tubing.</p> |
