A catalyst for treating discharge gases is provided with which the amount of a mercury-chlorinating agent, which is highly corrosive, to be added in a discharge gas treatment can be reduced while maintaining a high efficiency of mercury oxidation. The catalyst is for use in a discharge gas treatment in which ammonia is used as a reducing agent to catalytically remove nitrogen oxides from a discharge gas and a halogen is used as an oxidizing agent to oxidize mercury. This catalyst comprises: TiOas a support; an oxide of at least one member selected from the group consisting of vanadium, tungsten, and molybdenum, the oxide being deposited as an active ingredient on the support; and at least one member selected from the group consisting of bismuth, phosphorus, and a compound including bismuth and/or phosphorus, as a promotor deposited on the support.
|
