摘要 1,094,216. Superconductor switched inductors. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Nov. 30, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963], No. 48570/64. Headings H1K and HIT. A switched inductor consists of a superconducting current-carrying conductor located close to a superconductor control plane. When the control plane is made resistive the magnetic field of the conductor expands from the restricted region it occupies when the control plane is superconductive. The inductance associated with the conductor thus increases. A sheet of ferromagnetic material may be placed below the control plane to increase the inductance in the high inductance state. The current-carrying conductor is so shaped that the return path of the image current induced in the superconducting control plane is short compared to the length of path over which current is induced. The magnetic field associated with the return path is thus confined to a small space so that the low state inductance of the device is kept to a minimum. The embodiment shown has a conductor of lead spaced from a control plane 31 of tin by a layer of silicon monoxide (not shown). An optional ground plane 32 of lead restricts the field emanating from the end portions 28, 30 of the conductor and prevents field spreading from the part of the return path on the underside of the control plane. Other constructions are described in which the shapes of the conductor, control plane, and ground plane are different. In all the embodiments described, the control plane is made resistive by passing a current through it, but it is suggested that a magnetic field, radiant energy, heat, or microwaves could be used in other devices.
