An electrically heated cast iron hot plate 10 is disposed in the central aperture of a stainless steel support bezel 16 which has a plurality of screw threaded metal fastening studs 23 welded to its peripheral flange 19, extending through openings 21a in the margin bordering an aperture 20 of a wood and/or plastics working surface 21 or metal hob plate (Fig. 2, not shown). The shanks 23b of the studs 23 have asbestos or rubber sleeves 25 to reduce heat transmission between the bezel 16 and the working surface 21. A rubber gasket 26 is also inserted between the flange 19 of bezel 16 and the top of working surface 21 and asbestos and metal washers 27, 28 between the wing nut 24 on the shank 23b and the bottom of the working surface 21.
