1,095,192. Automatic circuit-breakers. TERASAKI DENKI SANGYO KABUSHIKIKAISHA. March 16, 1965 [March 16, 1964], No. 11055/65. Heading H2B. A circuit-breaker has two co-operating movable contact-carrying arms 3, 4 which are substantially parallel when the contacts 3a, 4a are closed, the arm 4 being moved, about pivot 7, away from the arm 3 to open the contacts by electrodynamic repulsion acting between the arms when a very heavy current flows through them. The arm 3 is then released by tripping mechanism so that the arm 3 moves to its open position before the arm 4 is returned to its initial position by a spring 9. The tripping mechanism comprises a bi-metal 26 with heater 28 and adjusting screw 31, and a series electromagnet 27, 38 with an armature 39. The bimetal 26 and the armature 39, under moderate and heavy overloads respectively, turn a tripping member 34 to release a member 36 to unlatch a lever 23. This permits a toggle 24 to collapse to move the arm 3 to the open position. |
