A wheelchair lift system for mounting on a vehicle comprises a platform assembly 16 in the form of a main platform 30 and a platform extension 32 slidable relative to the main platform, handrails 50 pivotably mounted on the platform 30 and movable between a stowed position and a deployed position by handrail deployment means actuated by movement of the platform. The deployment means may be a cam member (82 fig 6) and a cam follower (84 fig 6), one of which is mounted on the main platform 30 and the other mounted on the platform extension 32, the follower moving the handrail via a lever (70 fig 7) and rod (64 fig 7) or a gear mechanism. A hydraulic system is described for raising the lift and moving the platform extension. |
