PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gas barrier coating compositions harmless to humans which do not reduce barrier properties against a gas such as oxygen and water vapor even under a high-humidity condition and do not contain compounds which need to worry about harmfulness to humans, and gas barrier coating films using the same which excel in gas barrier properties. SOLUTION: The gas barrier coating compositions comprise (a) a polyvinyl alcohol based resin and (b) at least one member selected from the group consisting of a metal alcoholate represented by the formula : R1mM(OR2)n (wherein M is a metal atom; R1 is the same or different, and each a 1-8C organic group; R2 is the same or different, and each a 1-5C alkyl group, a 1-6C acyl group or a phenyl group; m and n are each an integer of not smaller than 0; and m+n is a valence of M), a hydrolyzate of the metal alcoholate, a condensate of the metal alcoholate, a chelate compound of the metal alcoholate, and a hydrolyzate or a metal acylate of the chelate compound, and the gas barrier coating films use these compositions. |
