[Also in Division G2] A web roll 17, Figs. 1, 2 and 4, is guided over supports 124, 125 on a shaft 16 so as to be positioned within an open-end drum 15 which is then closed by a shutter 129, 134, the roll then being supported on bearings 131, 126. Mounted within an axial slit 22 in the drum are pressure rollers 18, 19 coated with resilient material, between which the free end of the web 29 is threaded. The spindle of the roller 19 carries a pinion engaging a stationary semi-circular rack 21. When the drive motor is started, the drum and roll rotate, the rack causing rotation of the rollers 18, 19 to draw the web therebetween and inside a resiliently curved guide plate 23, until a cam 62 on the drum trips a microswitch 61 to stop the motor. The motor is restarted when a microswitch 63 is actuated, and the web is carried round past a pivoted blade 27 which severs it into sheets, the rack being discontinued so that the web is not further withdrawn. When the pinion re-engages the rack, a further length of web is withdrawn and the operation repeated. In another form, Fig. 6, four racks 87-90 are provided, each with an associated blade, so that during each revolution four sheets are cut and delivered by four separate channels to a stack 114. The racks are adjustable in length according to the desired sheet length. |
