PURPOSE: An operation method of a visual surveillance system and the visual surveillance system are provided to efficiently and easily detect events by informing production of the events to a user when the set detection events are detected. CONSTITUTION: A visual surveillance system comprises the following steps: searching a monitoring object corresponding to a first text in database(S210); displaying the searched monitoring object(S220); displaying a first text in correspondence with a location of the object(S230); changing one among the location, size, and a shape of the object(S240); and setting a monitoring event(S250).
