A structuring method in which along the z-optic axis a laser beam is directed onto the surface of a fiber (3), the Rayleigh length (P) of the optical system (1a,2) consisting of the laser (1a) and the focusing optics (2) is adjusted so that the minimum of the correlation (z'(z)) between the beam waste position (z') of the surface (3a) of the fiber (3) facing the optical system (1a,2) and the beam waste position (z) of the fiber incident on this system, falls in this region of the fiber core.
