1,100,143. Stapling machines. SIGNODE CORPORATION. 1 Feb., 1966 [17 Feb., 1965], No. 4365/66. Heading B4C. A device for closing the forward end of a magazine for a stapling machine comprises a member 62 having a slot 90 for the passage of staples from the magazine and a channel 74 for guiding a driving blade (52, Fig. 2), the channel being closed by a plate 64 resiliently urged by spring fingers 114, 116 on a plate 66, against guideways 92 so that in the event of a staple becoming jammed in the channel the plate moves forwardly, thereby preventing damage to the machine. The member 62 is formed with an extension 72 which enters the forward end of the magazine chamber (34, Fig. 2) in which a row of staples (36) are secured by means of a magnet (30). The plate 64 is formed with tapered recesses 98, 100 into which the spring fingers 116, 114 respectively engage and with a projection 122 so that the plate can be removed by means of a lever such as a screwdriver (7) Fig. 3). |
