The tool clamping unit comprises a spindle sleeve (4) attached to a spindle shaft accommodating a clamping bar partly surrounded by a cluster of springs. A tool release mechanism is joined to the clamping unit with a holding component (20) comprising an element (19) attached to the sleeve (4). The release unit is positioned behind the spindle (3) and operated by an electric drive (22) in order to save space and material normally used for the production and accommodation of the hydraulic system.
