Solar panel 400 comprises base tile 100, photovoltaic tiles 10 comprising one or more photoelectric cells (12a-12i, fig. 24) electrically connected together to form a photoelectric cell circuit (500, fig. 26) and a connection system 200 supported on the base tile 100 and electrically connecting photovoltaic tiles 10 together in groups of two or more and mechanically coupling photovoltaic tiles 10 to base the 100. Connection system 200 allows electrical coupling of base the 100 with an adjacent base tile. At least one bypass device 42 is shunted across a set of one or more of photovoltaic cells (12, fig. 24) in the photoelectric cell circuit (500, fig. 26). Bypass device 42 provides a current path for the photoelectric cell circuit (500, fig. 26) across the set of photoelectric cells (12, fig. 24) when an output voltage across the set of photoelectric cells is less than a predetermined threshold voltage. Bypass device 42 may be a switching device such as a diode (42, fig. 27), anti-fuse or a transistor switching device. Connection system 200 may comprise a plurality of conducting posts (204, fig. 4) with different forms of fitting (216a in fig. 12, 216b in fig. 14, 216c in fig. 15 and 216d in fig. 16) such as fins (218, fig. 4), screw thread (224, fig. 14) and threaded cap (226, fig. 14), extending spring (230, fig. 15) or a threaded bore (250, fig. 16). |
