A liquid heating vessel comprises a heater forming at least part of the base of the vessel, the heater comprising a heater plate and an electric heating element attached to or formed on the underside of the heater plate. The vessel further comprises a disrupter member 118 having an annular part 120 disposed above and extending over at least part of the upper surface of the heater plate opposite where the heating element is provided. The surface of the annular part 120 in contact with liquid below the disrupter member 118 is generally concave. The disrupter member 118 is arranged in use to partially isolate a layer of liquid directly above the heating element. This can reduce the noise produced by the vessel in heating or boiling water.
