Disclosed is an isolated double-stranded RNA of from about 21 nucleotides to 23 nucleotides that is perfectly complementary to an mRNA and mediates RNA interference by directing cleavage of the mRNA to which it is perfectly complementary, wherein cleavage of the mRNA is directed within the region that is perfectly complementary with the isolated RNA, and wherein the mRNA is mammalian cellular mRNA or viral mRNA. Also disclosed are analogs, methods of production, methods of use and pharmaceutical compositions encompassing the disclosed isolated double-stranded RNA. |
