Independent claims are included for: (1) dithiolane compounds (I), where (I) excludes: 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-carboxylic acid, 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-carboxamide, 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-methyl carboxylate, 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-ethyl carboxylate, 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-propyl carboxylate, 4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-benzyl carboxylate, N-methyl-4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-carboxylate, and {[(4-methyl-1,2-dithiolan-4-yl)carbonyl]amino}acetic acid; and (2) a composition comprising (I) in a medium.
