PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an electrochemical element which is superior in heat resistance, favorable in handling, and small in pore diameter. SOLUTION: (1) The separator for the electrochemical element is the separator so that interspaces of a fiber matrix are filled with aluminiumoxides and microfibrillated cellulose having a dispersed agglomeration diameter of smaller than 1 μm, or (2) that interspaces of a fiber matrix are filled with aluminiumoxides, hydroxylated aluminiumoxides, and a microfibrillated cellulose and the dispersed agglomeration diameter of an agglomerated structure composed of the aluminiumoxid and hydroxylated aluminiumoxid is sam than 1 μm.
