PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for dismantling a large-sized storage tank, which can enhance safety by avoiding high-place work as much as possible. SOLUTION: The method for dismantling the large-sized storage tank includes: a lifting- and lowering-means installation step of installing a lifting and lowering means for holding a column supporting a roof section; a column cutting and eliminating step of cutting and eliminating a part of the column lower than the position of the column held with the lifting- and lowering-means; a roof-separating step of cutting the peripheral edge of the roof; a lifting- and lowering-means lowering step of lowering the roof by a descending motion made with the lifting- and lowering-means; and a holding-position shifting step of shifting the holding position of the column by the lifting- and lowering-means. The column-cutting and eliminating step, the lifting- and lowering-means lowering step, and the holding position shifting step are repeatedly performed, so as to dismantle of the roof section and a sidewall section.
