<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data restoration method excellent in terms of information security as it prevents unnecessary data from being restored. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The data restoration method is provided for restoring data for a recording medium, in which filed data are recorded in the order of time series from the head of a user region. The method includes: a detection step of reading the data sequentially from the head of the user region and detecting the data and information on the time and date of recording of the data; and a restoration step of comparing the detected information on the time and date of recording with reference information on the time and date of recording for comparison, and for output of the detected data as restored data if the information on the time and date of recording is newer, or not restoring the detected data if the information on the time and date of recording is older.
