<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine cooling system efficiently warming up a cylinder block, and improving fuel consumption by improving deterioration in a heat balance between the cylinder block and a cylinder head after completing warming up. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This cooling system includes: a first channel 21 supplying cooling water from a water pump 11 to the cylinder head 12; a second channel 22 supplying the cooling water supplied to the cylinder head to a radiator 31; a third channel 23 supplying the cooling water from the cylinder head to the cylinder block through an EGR cooler 32 and an exhaust heat recovery unit 33; and a thermostat 35 which switches over a fourth channel 24 so that when cooling water temperature is below the temperature when warming up of the engine 1 is completed, the cooling water from the radiator through the fourth channel 24 is returned to the water pump; meanwhile, which switches over a fifth channel 25 so that when the cooling water temperature reaches the temperature when the warming up of the engine 1 is completed, the cooling water from the cylinder block through the fifth channel 25 is returned to the water pump.
