<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which prevents conveyance from being inhibited by protecting a platen driving member from foreign substances such as dust by a simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A lid body which can be opened and closed with respect to a recording medium storing part has a platen, and a driving member for driving the platen is fitted to one end of the platen. In the printer with a clam shell structure in which printing is performed by closing the lid body to a housing having the recording medium storing part, the lid body is constituted so that it can be opened and closed with respect to the recording medium storing part by using one end of the platen with the driving member as a shaft.
