PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that performs accurate authentication even during occurrence of trouble. SOLUTION: Image processing apparatuses such as a multifunction machine etc., have functions of authenticating users by communicating with an authentication server 104 through a network 105. When it is determined that there is no trouble occurring with the authentication server 104, an authentication picture for normal time is displayed and input authentication information is transmitted to the authentication server 104 to perform server authentication. When it is determined that communication trouble occurs, an authentication picture for communication trouble occurrence time is displayed and input authentication information is compared with authentication information held inside to perform authentication in the apparatus.
