PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printing apparatus having an index label preparing function capable of preparing an index label which can be easily stuck and has high visibility after sticking. SOLUTION: When information on the length Ys of a side on which the index label 61 is stuck in a sticking object 70, information on the number N of the index label 61 to be prepared, and information on the length Rs of the index label 61 are inputted from an inputting means, a controlling means controls a calculating means to calculate the number Yn of the index label 61 which can be stuck on the side on which the index label 61 is stuck, prepares printing data of a standard tape 60 by controlling a printing data preparing means so that the number of the index label 61 provided by a standard tape 60 of one line comes within stickable number Yn calculated, prints the printing data on the printing tape 31 by controlling a tape printing means, and puts a half-cut 62 between respective index labels 61 by controlling a half-cut means.
